Should I refinish my hardwood floor or replace it?

If your existing hardwood is 3/4 inch solid or has a thick enough wear layer, refinishing is almost always the better choice. It restores the floor to like-new condition at a fraction of the cost of replacement, preserves the original character of the home, and dramatically reduces waste. During our free in-home estimate we measure the remaining wear layer and tell you honestly whether refinishing or replacement is appropriate.

How do estimates work and what do they cost?

Estimates are completely free and carry no obligation. One of the owners visits your home, measures the space, evaluates the subfloor and existing finish, and walks you through stain and finish samples. You receive a clear written quote with the scope, materials, and timeline. We do not use high-pressure sales tactics.

How long does a typical refinishing project take?

Accepted Answer

Most residential refinishing projects take three to five working days from start to final coat. Installations vary based on square footage and complexity. We provide a project-specific timeline with your estimate and keep you informed throughout the work. You can typically walk on the floor in socks twenty-four hours after the final coat, and place furniture after seventy-two hours.

How much dust will there be during sanding?

We use modern near-dustless sanding equipment that captures the vast majority of dust at the source. We also seal off adjacent rooms and HVAC returns. Some residual fine dust is unavoidable on a sanding project, but the difference between modern equipment and the open-bag sanders of decades past is dramatic.

Can I stay in my home while the work is done?

In most cases, yes. We coordinate the work room by room when possible and let you know which areas to avoid and for how long. The final polyurethane coats have a noticeable odour that dissipates within a day or two using low-VOC, water-based finishes. We can advise on the best plan during your estimate.

Do you work in condos and high-rise buildings?

Yes. We are fully insured and bonded and routinely work in condos and high-rise buildings across Toronto and the GTA. We are familiar with building requirements, elevator booking, working hours, and underlayment specifications that condo boards expect.

Can you match the colour of my existing floor?

Accepted Answer

In nearly every case, yes. We bring stain samples and prepare custom on-site sample boards on your actual floor so the colour you approve is exactly what you receive. For repairs, we hand-blend stains and feather finishes so the repaired area becomes invisible.

Do you replace and refinish staircases?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Staircases are one of our favourite projects. We craft solid oak treads and risers, convert carpeted stairs to stained hardwood, and refinish existing staircases. Spindles and handrails can be refinished in place to match the floor.
